Bianchini's to Occupy Bell Market
Site
It's been a long time in coming, but we have some
good news to report about the Bell Market site on Laurel Street downtown. On
July 7, Foodville signed a 30_ year lease with the Bell landlord, ending a long
and competitive negotiations over a three year period. The site has been empty
since November 2006 when Bell Market closed its doors, leaving the site empty
and citizens worried about the need for another market. Foodville owners,
brothers Kevin and Chris Bianchini, will open and operate the site as
Bianchini's, the name of their other store in Portola Valley. The move allows
Foodville to expand from their current 8,000 square feet to the new 20,000 sq.
ft. place. This will mean a greater variety of merchandise, a more updated look
and an expansion of their customer base. Foodville is well known for its service
and quality, and the new store will expand to include more in the way of organic
produce, cheeses, a larger deli, salad bar, a full wine and liquor selection and
new grocery items. The Bianchinis want to be "the full-service grocery
store in San Carlos" and hope to open by the end of the year. Look for a
customer survey asking what YOU would like to see the store carry.
